The concept of the digital
press was first introduced at the 1993 IPEX exhibition in Birmingham (UK).
Although there is no official
definition of the term, a digital press is a colour-capable device capable
of efficiently and cost-effectively producing very short print runs at
a quality typical of a standard litho press.
As these presses use similar
imaging systems to the familiar xerographic process used in photo-copiers,
it is possible to print a different image on each successive page.
Let us now go on to explain
what this means to the printer's customer.
